Obituary of DARREN WILLIAM NICKEL

DARREN NICKEL

Unexpectedly on November 7, 2022 Darren passed away. He will be sadly missed and always remembered by his mother and father Elrose (Rose) Shearer and Bill, his brother Brent, sister in-law Candy, and Niece Emma.

Darren was born on April 14, 1965 in Winnipeg. He was such a tiny baby at 3 lbs 13oz, and 16 1/2 Inches long.

Darren grew up in Transcona and graduated from Murdoch Mackay Collegiate in 1983. As a youth, Darren was very involved in kung fu martial arts. He was enrolled in Yamaha Piano music programs and played defence in hockey through Oxford Heights Community Club. Later in life he loved to cook and entertain friends. At the time of his passing he was employed by the Canada Revenue Agency, and made many friends there.

Spring was always Darren’s favourite time of year. He was always excited about getting his garden planted. Usually his harvest was plentiful and he would share this bounty with his friends. His summer time was spent outdoors fishing. He enjoyed his fire pit with friends and watching his dogs chase rabbits or squirrels. He was very proud of his girls Angel, Ice Cube, and Amber. Darren enjoyed feeding the many different birds that came to his yard.

Darren’s home always had beautiful plants thriving in the south sun. He had a beautiful, large aquarium and enjoyed taking care of his fish. Come fall time he looked forward to visiting friends, curling as well as watching it on tv. He enjoyed hunting geese, bear, deer, grouse, and fishing.

Darren always remembered his family and friends birthdays with a phone call or visit. His calendar had all special occasions marked down and remembered. One of Darren’s favourite days was Christmas Eve. Around 3 pm, him and his dogs come home to be with mom and dad. He relaxed, read the Free Press, nibbled on smoked oysters, cheese, and veggies. Then he’d check out the gifts under the Christmas tree. Darren and his dad played pool and had long talks. Emma joined the family for a special Christmas dinner prepared by mom. She always forgot the buns in the microwave. Not sure why…We are really going to miss these family visits.

Memorial for Darren will be held on Friday, December 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel Transcona, 1800 Day St. with interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery.
