Obituary of EILEEN MARGUERITE SANDERS

EILEEN MARGUERITE SANDERS

March 31, 1917 - July 11, 2022

Mom passed peacefully at age 105.

Eileen is survived by five children: Mary Jane Potvin (Jim), Sylvia Chadwick (Wayne), Jim Sanders (Kerän), Herb Reynolds (Linda), Sheldon Reynolds (Karen) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Francis Sanders in 1981.

As the picture shows Mom was always making preparations for visitors. Well past 100 she would fret over what to serve when visited at Concordia Village and Concordia Place. We wish to acknowledge the wonderful care for Eileen by staff of Concordia Place. Thank you for all you provided to Eileen and her family members. Special thanks and appreciation to her sons Herb and Jim for loving care and commitment over many years for our dear mother.

After retiring from City of Winnipeg Social Services Mom pursued many interests including travel, reading (several books per week), Tarot cards, Reiki, emailing on her computer (especially with grandchildren), painting and harmonica classes at Good Neighbours, listening to and attending Daniel O’Donnell concerts, being Queen Mother to the first Red Hat Society of Winnipeg, gardening in her rose bed, feeding the birds (hoping for a visit by blue jays), and walking her dogs at Frasers Grove park.

Many people told us that Mom was their choice as a role model for aging. Her friends and neighbours were very important to her.

At age 52, Mom amazed us by studying at Red River College for one year and proudly graduating second in her class. Education was a priority. Both of our parents stressed the importance of higher education to each of us.

Mom enjoyed family time at the three cottages that she and Dad built at Delta Beach near Portage la Prairie, Lee River near Lac du Bonnet, and Balsam Bay on Lake Winnipeg. These were all early introductions to recycling. Building materials came from an old church floor (square nails), a grain elevator, a military base, and Winnipeg's old post office.

A private family graveside service will take place with Rev. Laurie Howard of John Black United Church officiating. Cropo Funeral Chapel on Main Street is assisting.
