MARIA AUGUSTA CRAVEIRO CARVALHO

 

 Peacefully, Maria Augusta Craveiro Carvalho suddenly passed on June 21, 2022 in the presence of her three children and her only granddaughter who sat vigil by her side to ensure her comfort during her departure. Maria was born in Feteiras, Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Portugal on February 17, 1942. She immigrated to Kenora, Ontario in 1960 and then proceeded to build her life in Winnipeg, Manitoba from 1962 to the time of her passing.

 

During her time in Winnipeg, she forged a legacy of assisting others to achieve their dreams. Having worked for the Winnipeg School Division #1 at Pinkham Elementary School from 1973 until her retirement. During her tenure at Pinkham School, she mentored and guided hundreds of students. In addition, she was passionate about ensuring that the children in her district were properly fed by assisting in running the schools breakfast program ensuring that they had a healthy meal to start their day.

 

Maria was an advocate for assisting individuals that were new to Canada. She advocated for their rights and assisted them and their children to access community needs programs so that they could better fill their role as new Canadians. She was very well respected in the Portuguese and Canadian Community and touched the lives of many individuals throughout the years. She was also an active individual enjoying time with her family and friends. She is survived by her partner Cecil Harris.

 

She is predeceased by her Mother Angela da Gloria Craveiro and Father Jose Craveiro and her siblings Manuel De Sousa Craveiro (Ilda), Conceicao Zbrog (Bruno), Candida Craveiro (Joao Martins, Gloria Craveiro (Manuel Pimental), Angela Craveiro (Joao Elias), Eduardo Craveiro (Natalia Craveiro), Nicolau Craveiro (Maria Craveiro).

 

Maria will also be missed by her siblings Eduarda Craveiro (Diodato Cordeiro) and Jaoa Craveiro (Maria Craveiro), her three children Charles (Pety), Richard (Mary) Kathleen (Rui). grandchildren Charlie, Jason (Cindy), Daniel, Jared, Adam (Maria), Anthony, Katryna, and Braeden,. She was also pleased to have been blessed with six great grandchildren, Chaz, Meadow, Olivia, Alina, Ariana, and Noa. In addition, she will also be greatly missed by her God-Children, nephews, nieces, friends and former students.
