Obituary of JOSEPH MAKSYMOWICZ

Joseph Maksymowicz

October 16, 1941 – June 13, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joseph (Joe) Maksymowicz on Monday, June 13, 2022 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 80 years.

He was predeceased by his beloved June Bortkiewicz and parents Josephine and Andrew Maksymowicz.

Joe is survived by his children, Joey (Melissa), Leslie (Shannon), Debbie (Evan), of Vancouver, BC, and granddaughter Elsie. He also leaves his brother Martin.

Joe was born in Kolonia Rzeplin, Poland and came to Canada with his family when he was 18 years old. He learned to speak English at St. John’s High School. He went on to work at Manitoba Hydro as a Heavy Duty Mechanic for 27 years, retiring at the age of 55. Joe met the love of his life, June, playing music, which was the other love of his life, when he was 31 years old. Joe loved to play accordion (especially gypsy music), singing and playing piano in addition to many other instruments. He spent many hours in his garage working on cars and doing MacGyver style home repairs to his home on Matheson Ave in the North End of Winnipeg.

Joe enjoyed the simple things in life like his family, books, playing and listening to music and learning languages. He loved playing the slots at McPhillips Street Station with June, and later with Les, and was always trying to “win the big one”. Joe’s door was always open to friends and to lend a helping hand to those in need.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, with an interment to follow in Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Cemetery, 4387 Main Street. .
