Obituary of HELEN TOKAR
HELEN TOKAR
(NEE BLACK)
At the age of 85, Helen passed away on January 21, 2013. Helen was born on August 15, 1927 in the R.M. of Franklin (Tolstoi).
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Marie (Lou) Profeta, Elizabeth (Nick) Skoropet, Robert (Gail) Tokar; granddaughter, Ashley Skoropet; sisters, Margaret Lewko (Fairfield, California), Frances (Norton) Adderley (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia), Marian (Ed) Swiston (Winnipeg, Manitoba) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Helen spent most of her career as a teacher both in rural Manitoba and the city of Winnipeg. She enjoyed relating stories about her teaching experiences and felt that education was an important tool in life. According to mom one of the most significant accomplishments in her life was "seeing the growth and attitudes of the pupils I taught". In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, baking and quality time with her family and friends. Helen liked to garden, work in her yard, read and work on various needlecrafts. She was an avid letter writer, keeping in touch with her family and friends for over 50 years.
Special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Residence and Seven Oaks Hospital for their kindness and care of Helen.
