Obituary of Joan Lagiewka

JOAN MARILYN LAGIEWKA

On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, Joan Marilyn Lagiewka passed away at Portage District General Hospital in Portage la Prairie. She was 78 years of age. Joan was born on January 8, 1944, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
She was predeceased by her parents, Max and Eugenie Demchuk. She leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories, her husband Ed; her sons, Christian (Becky), Kyle (Melanie); and grandchildren, Lily, Cole, Jackson and Alexa; her brother Michael (Darcy) and their children, Todd and Michael Jr.; sister-in-law Norinne and brother-in-law Rick and niece Jacquelyn, sister-in-law Doris (Thom) and nephews, Kelly and Arron.
Joan had a fulfilling life spending her boundless love on her passions of family, gardening, flower arranging, fishing, and her dogs Blacky, Chase, Jasper, Leo, and cat Joshua. She was among the first woman carpenters in Manitoba (and one hell of a carpenter at home) whose creativity was endless, making desks, decks, garages, and a multitude of other projects. Outside of her skills as a carpenter and a gardener, she was an excellent cook whose cabbage rolls, soups, cookies, and more were enjoyed by many generations.
Joan loved travelling with Ed to Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Texas, Florida and Arizona where they had many adventures.
To find her you only needed to check the backyard where she would be planting and caring for an impressive display of flowers, a garden with a large selection of vegetables and other plants. The house was always filled with and surrounded by this love for everyone to enjoy and admire.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Portage District General Hospital who cared for her over multiple extended stays during the final year of her life.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 1:30 p.m.at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, in the Rose Room.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Portage Animal Welfare Society Inc. (121 - 12th St. N.E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 4A2) can be made.
