Obituary of ELENOR ERNA MARIE NICKEL
ELENOR ERNA MARIE NICKEL
(NEE WIELANDER)
April 12th 1942- March 19th 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce, after a short battle with cancer, the peaceful passing of our mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend Elenor Erna Marie Nickel (née Wielander) at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was 79.
Elenor is survived by many loving individuals including her daughter Katharine (Michael) Ewatski; granddaughter Taylor Ewatski, son Richard Nickel, sister Louise Bromley and her nephews Kelly Bromley and Jeffrey Bromley. She was predeceased by her parents Louis Wielander who immigrated from Germany to Canada and Erna Wielander (nee Ammeter) who immigrated to Canada from Switzerland. As well as predeceased by her husband Waldemar (Walter) Nickel and her canine companion “Pee Wee”.
Grandma, I will forever cherish our memories together. I will never forget the days you took care of me while my mom and dad were working. I will miss our walks and conversations to Tim Hortons at the corner of the street. Uncle Rich, you, Pewee and I spending countless hours at Birds Hill Beach, as well as Kildonan Park Pool and enjoying many breakfasts with you at your favorite restaurants. As well as the few summers we spent with Auntie Louise at the lake. I will miss your smiles and your laughter. And you will forever be my guardian angel. Your spirit will continue to live through us all.
As per Elenor’s wishes cremation has taken place and no funeral or memorial service will be held. Our family would like to thank St. Boniface Hospital in providing as much comfort for her in her last few days, all the nurses who attended to her at Seven Oaks Hospital, her regular physician Dr. Tamara Buchel and the Dynacare Team (Shannon & Janice).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elenor’s name to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
