Obituary of ELISABETTA D'AGRUMA

Elisabetta D’Agruma

April 9, 1937 - January 15, 2022

Peacefully, with her husband by her side, Elisabetta D’Agruma passed away at the age of 84. Born on April 9, 1937 in Manfredonia, Foggia, a small town in Italy, she was one of twelve siblings who had an unwavering love and commitment towards her family and friends. She leaves behind her husband Pietro, her son Matthew, daughter Nancy, granddaughter Breanna and many brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Elisabetta was humble, generous, kind, and giving. She came to Canada right after being married, leaving her homeland so that her children would have more opportunity and a better chance at life. She was selfless and gave of herself each and every single day. Before her diagnosis, she prayed that when it was time for her to go that it would be slow so that her family would not have to experience the sudden shock of losing her. Even in death she did not think of herself but instead the wellbeing of those around her.

Her granddaughter was her pride and joy. Although Mom made many spectacular Italian dishes, her favourite dish to make was spaghetti because it was Breanna’s favourite. Every time Breanna came over after school she would ask Nona to make it and without hesitation Mom did. It was these special moments that she found joy in.

Her faith was a huge part of her life. She was one of a few founding members to start the Italian Pentecostal Church. She (along with our Father) held its first services in their home. The church grew from these humble beginnings into what is now known as the Oasis Church in Winnipeg. She served faithfully without expecting anything in return.

Mom was also passionate about singing. She loved to sing in Church in its early days and was part of the church choir. She would sing all the time at home and throughout the day, we loved her angelic voice. Now she is singing with the angels. There is no more pain, no more suffering, only joy as God welcomes her home.

Although we will miss her loving arms wrapped around us, her beautiful smile and contagious laugh, she is now in a better place. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

Love you Mom (Nona), we will think of you always until we see each other again.
