Obituary of MARY ROSE JANNETTA

Mary Rose Jannetta

(nee Dellapenta)

September 11, 1924 - December 19, 2021

It is with peace and comfort our Mary was taken to Heaven in God’s arms on December 19, 2021.

Mom grew up on Young Street and enjoyed all of what the neighbourhood had to offer in those days. She attended Somerset Elementary School, Hugh John McDonald for Junior High, and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate for her senior years.

Mary enjoyed being on the volleyball team, hanging out with her girlfriends, especially her best friend Christina Mastroianni. She enjoyed walking to Portage Ave, to window shop at Eaton’s and The Bay, her two favourite stores.

Mary worked at McDonald Brothers Aircraft in the office in 1940, where actress Kay Francis came to the plant to sell war bonds. She worked at R.C.A Victor Records in the late 1940’s, Canadian General Electric in the 1950’s, and at the Canadian Wheat Board in the 1970’s and retired in 1981.

Mary and Tony were married September 23, 1950 and resided on Dominion Street.

Our house was always busy, it was the place to be on Boxing Day, great food, Mary’s famous Dream cake, there was laughter in every room, it ended up to be “ come and stay”.

She was a parishioner at Holy Rosary Church since childhood and a member of the Catholic Woman’s League for over 60 years.

She was blessed with her four grandchildren whom she loved endlessly. Mom supported them in all of their endeavours, she attended all their events and never missed a beat.

Mom moved out of our family home after 50 years. She resided at Villa Cabrini where she enjoyed many friendships, helping out in the kitchen and the activities. In their earlier days, Mom and Dad enjoyed many road trips through the United States. A plane trip was out of the question until Rosemary and Perry made their home in Calgary, and that became her new travel destination. Mom then began her winter trips to Deerfield Beach Florida. She loved the sun, the sand, palm trees and of course the ocean breeze. The best trip of all when Mom went to Florida with Rosemary, Dianne and Louise. Those memories we will always cherish.

In 2007, Mom purchased the ultimate home away from home, our cottage in Matlock.

She loved it and could hardly wait until the weekend to go. She would spend a week with her sister Elizabeth. Mom was our Cabin Captain and forever will be.

Mom loved to crochet and made many blankets from small to large and donated them to the Children’s Hospital and for the kittens at the Humane Society. She loved flowers, Hydrangeas and Marigolds were her favourites. She enjoyed watching the birds and small animals.

Mom, bless your heart for all that you have done for us. You will be forever in our hearts and our memories. We will miss you so much and we know that you are surrounded by more love in Heaven.

We love you,

Rosemary, Perry, Stuart, Pam, Christine

Dianne, Ron, Doug , Erika

Louise, Silvano, Antonio, Nina

THE WATCHER

She always leaned to watch for us,

Anxious if we were late,

In the winter by the window,

In the summer by the gate;

And though we mocked her tenderly,

Who has such foolish care,

The long way home seemed safer,

Because she waited there;

Her thoughts were full of all of us,

She never could forget,

And so we think that where she is,

She must be watching yet;

Waiting til we come home to her,

Anxious if we are late,

Watching from Heaven’s window,

Leaning from Heaven’s gate
