Obituary of MICHAEL BOYCHUK

MICHAEL BOYCHUK June 24, 1922 - January 5, 2013 With heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of Michael Boychuk. Michael, age 90, left this world to be with the Lord on January 5th, leaving the love of his life, Olga of 66+ years of dedicated marriage. He was a prayerful person, attended weekly masses and when he could no longer attend, always had a prayer book on his lap or nearby. His favorite childhood memories were of riding horses and wonders of country life. He enjoyed solving word puzzles, doing carpentry (making household objects), tending houseplants, playing the harmonica, listening to Ukrainian music and whistling. In fact, he could be heard whistling anywhere, even while shopping. Michael was a veteran of World War II, trained with the Winnipeg Rifles and served in Belgium and Germany with the South Saskatchewan Regiment. When the war was over, he returned to Winnipeg to his sweetheart, Olga. They married in 1946 and lovingly raised 4 children. Michael was a hard worker, had several jobs including working for the Winnipeg Parks Board and Base Services at CFB Winnipeg, from which he retired. He really enjoyed his travel van and traveling to nearby Gimli and Lockport, or across Canada to Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or to the USA to Minnesota (Minneapolis honeymoon with Olga), Ohio, California, Oregon, even to Mexico. Mourning him will be his wife, Olga, son Dennis Boychuk (Joan), daughters: Diane (Ralph Onciul), Patricia (Wes Suhan), Lucille (Robert Ross), 8 grandchildren: Christine Boychuk, Darren Boychuk, Heather (Vince Barut), Kyle Onciul (Bryony), Karen (Kenny Stead), Gene Suhan, Amanda (Brent Dreilich), Robyn Ross, and 5 great-grandchildren: Matthew Glass, Cody Glass, Theo Onciul, Teyla Barut and Logan Dreilich. Also by nieces: Helen (Keith Bebak), Linda Mayall, Janet (Roy Hangle), Carol (Rod Tuckett) and nephews: Andy and Frank Paizen, Fred and Stanley Boychuk, as well as in-laws, Paul and Halia Pushkar and friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Julia Boychuk and siblings: Fred Boychuk (Connie), Mary (Nick Paizen), Pearl (Mike Hucul), John Boychuk, and 2 infant sisters. As well as, his in-laws Walter and Julia Dyryk. Divine Liturgy will be held at Holy Eucharist Church, 505 Watt Street, Winnipeg, Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10 AM, followed by interment at All Saints Ukrainian Cemetery. We thank Cropo Funeral Chapel, Father Michael Kwiatkowski, who will officiate and pallbearers: Robert Ross, Ralph Onciul, Brent Dreilich, Darren Boychuk, Mark Bzovey and Tim Haas. We thank his physician, Dr. Carl Duerksen and staff, Concordia Hospital staff and the paramedics who tried to help him. We MISS him and will remember many significant and good experiences of his life. "Good Bye sweetheart, dad, grampa, great-grampa, uncle, brother-in-law, friend, neighbor.........Good Bye, Michael."
