Obituary
Obituary of MARK MOTOCH
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Mark Motoch at the age of 47.
Left to remember him are his two cherished sons, Max and Luke, their mother Jackie, his sister Mel and his mother Sharon. He will be welcomed on the other side by his dad, George.
In December of 1973, Mark returned from the hospital to his home on James Carlton Drive, making him a Maples kid from day one. He grew up playing in the empty fields that are now established neighborhoods; attending Ukrainian school at R.F. Morrison and junior high at Ken Seaford, finishing off his high school years between Maples Collegiate and Sisler High School. Being a Motoch boy means playing sports and Mark played them all - hockey, baseball, soccer - but football would become his life long passion. He started young, playing on Pop Warner teams which were always coached by his equally passionate dad George. He went on to play high school football then moved to the states where he played at Mesabi Community College and Bemidji State University. In 1998 Mark found himself on a plane to Austria where he finished off his football career with NFL Europe playing for the Klosterneuburg Mercenaries. Upon moving back to Winnipeg, Mark stumbled on a film crew shooting in his neighborhood one day and thought that would make a fine career. He signed up for set etiquette and went on to spend 20 years in the film industry as a Motion Picture Technician in the electrics department. Production hours were always long and his co-workers became a second family to him. He formed countless lasting friendships on set. Mark married Jackie in 2006 and they went on to have Max in 2008 and Luke in 2011. His boys were his world and his proudest achievements. As Motoch boys they played sports and Mark attended every practice and game he could, pacing the sidelines as both a parent and a coach. Mark made an impression on everyone he met, and his memory will live on with so many.
The family gives special thanks to the staff at HSC who provided comfort in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Addictions Foundation Manitoba or your charity of choice.
