Obituary of ALMERINDA RAPOSO CABRAL
It is with great sadness that we share that on December 1st, 2021, with her daughters by her side, we said goodbye to our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and aunt; Almerinda at the age of 98. She was predeceased by her husband and the love of her life Agostinho in 2000.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Ana (Jose), Zenaide (Manuel), Sandy (Jerry); grandchildren Kelly (Corey), Stacey (Mike), Nancy, Diana (Carlos), Ryan, and Meagan; great-grandchildren Caitlin (Jeremy), Kayla, Ella, Ava, and Octavia; great-great grandchildren Lilah and Oliver. She is also survived by her brother Augusto and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Porto Formoso, Sao Miguel, Azores, she immigrated to Canada in 1962 to join her husband Agostinho and together built their life in Winnipeg. Mom lived a simple life and her family was everything to her. As the matriarch, she always brought everyone together. She loved to cook, bake and host big Sunday dinners, making sure everyone was taken care of. As her sons-in-law would say “Mom can make a meal for six when she only has enough for two.”
She led by example, always loving, generous, and kind. She was honest, outspoken and never shied away from saying what she thought. To those who knew her, mom had a spark and had a way to make those around her laugh, often cracking crazy jokes and bringing a smile to the room.
As a mother and grandmother, she instilled strength, value of life, acceptance, and happiness in all of us. She was the most joyful with her family around her. Along with raising and caring for her daughters she played a great part in raising her precious and beloved grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She was a nurturer to family and anyone she welcomed into her home. She was beautiful inside and out.
Our hearts and lives are missing a large piece but we take comfort in the memories we hold close. We love you, miss you, and will remember you always. May you rest in peace with Dad.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Holy Family Home, St. Johns Unit for their care, love, and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Holy Family Home or the Alzheimer Society.
Due to restrictions, a private family viewing will be held on Tuesday Dec. 7th, 2021 at 1:00pm at Immaculate Conception Parish and Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 2:00pm with interment at Assumption Cemetery.
