WILLIAM BÉLA ZEKANY

William Béla Zekany passed away peacefully on October 15, 2021 at St Boniface Hospital, at the age of 85 years.

He was predeceased by his wife Helen, and daughter Victoria Zekany. William is survived by his daughter Monica, granddaughter Rae, and grandson Samuel Zekany-Hyer (Barrie Ont.)

William was born and raised in Hungary where he became a lathe machinist. He met his wife Helen in Budapest and then they came to Canada in the 1950’s, where together they raised their children in Winnipeg. William worked a few different jobs to help with learning English, and he loved to tell stories about his time as a candy maker before becoming a lathe machinist in the Wheel Shop at CN until retirement. He absolutely loved going to his cabin at Balaton Beach as often as he could, he enjoyed playing cards at the Hungarian Canadian Cultural Society, loved reminiscing about family, friends, and his various jobs.

An interment was held October 22, 2021 at Brookside Cemetery.
