Obituary of GLADYS GURAL

GLADYS GURAL JUNE 22, 1925 – JANUARY 1, 2013 Peacefully, with her family at her side, our mother Gladys Gural passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Oakview Place. Gladys is survived by her daughters Cindy (Rick) Grabowecky and Denise Chipilski; her granddaughters, Lori (Lyle) Horodecki, Lisa (Gordon) Nickel, Elizabeth and Stephanie Chipilski; her great grandchildren, Max, Stella, Nadia and Oliver. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Veert, her sister-in-law Nell (Marven) O’Neil and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Nick, her son-in-law Don Chipilski, her parents William and Horpyna Dowbenko and her sisters Mary, Olga and Verna. Mom was born and raised on the family farm near Inkster and Burrows. She attended Wentworth School where many lifelong friendships originated. Mom enjoyed working alongside her father on the farm and out in the fields. In her twenties, Mom met Dad and they were married in 1951. They built their home on Kurt Ave., living there for 54 years. Mom always enjoyed a good cup of tea with family and friends. As soon as she heard a knock on the door, the kettle was on. She was a warm and kind woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her interests included knitting, gardening, bowling, fishing, shopping and golfing, which she started around the age of sixty. Mom’s main interest was her family. She never missed an important occasion that involved her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren. Mom enjoyed attending birthday parties, graduations and Ukrainian dance and band concerts. We would like to express our gratitude to the entire staff at Oakview Place. The love, care and unconditional support Mom and our family received will be forever remembered. Thank you to Dr. Moran De Muller and Dr. Ian Maharaj for taking care of Mom. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
