CHARLES HANDKAMER Peacefully at Concordia Place on January 01, 2013, Charles Handkamer passed away at the age of 85 years after a long battle with Alzheimers. Charles leaves behind his son Craig and his wife Barb, grandsons Anthony and Neal, sister Dorothy, sister-in-law Magdalene as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth last March, father Charles and mother Elizabeth, brothers Paul and Chris, and sisters Caroline, Mary, Elsie and Anna. Charles was born in Winnipeg in 1927, grew up in the North End on McKenzie St. and attended Isaac Newton School and Redeemer Lutheran Church. After school, he briefly worked for the CPR, took accounting courses at night and then began a long and enjoyable career in the accounting department at the Manitoba Telephone System. Charles and Elizabeth were married in 1954 and purchased a home on Atlantic Ave. During that early period, Charles was a member of the Canadian German Society and bowling became his favorite activity. In the years to follow, he divided his time between home renovations and family vacations. After retiring from MTS, they both enjoyed many treasured years of travelling together. The family would like to thank the 3rd floor Staff at Concordia Place for the outstanding care they provided Charles over the last decade. Their care and love will never be forgotten. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4 at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street, Pastor Lynne Hutchison presiding. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba
