Obituary of KATHERINE PETERS

KATHERINE PETERS
 (NEE RUMAK)

Katherine passed away peacefully with her son by her side at the Riverview Palliative Care Unit (3 East) on August 19, 2021 at the age of 102 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Peters in 2006, and earlier by her 2 brothers and a sister, niece Pat Pearson,  son-in-law Alex Tschernow.and great-granddaughter Leah Girardin.

Katherine is survived by her children Francis Peters and Catherine Tschernow, grandchildren Christian Tschernow and Carolyn Tschernow (Greg Girardin), great grandchildren Nikolas Tschernow and Jacob, Liam and Grace Girardin, niece Diane Chody and nephew Jim Rumak. Katherine has many nephews and nieces in both the Peters and Kizlyk families. Thanks to Susan Chernetski (Nee Peters) for her caring visits and flowers.

Katherine was a kind spirit, with much love and caring for all who knew her. She had a penchant for reading with a sharp wit that she maintained almost to her passing. The sound of children always made her smile. Her marriage to her husband Frank lasted almost 70 years; he remained in her heart to the end.  They had a lust for travel, visiting Europe, Hawaii, and Palm Springs many times. Music interested her, attending pop concerts with her daughter for years. She also had a longstanding relationship with some of her workmates at the Bay, where she was a mainstay in the staples department. Large family gatherings were not uncommon with her cooking skills at the forefront. To say she will be missed is huge understatement.

A huge thank-you to all the Doctors, nurses and healthcare aids at the Riverview Palliative Care Unit 3E — always caring, always resilient. Thank-you also to the home care aids that worked with her for 4 years. A special thanks to Dr. John A. Kreml for his lasting friendship, calm demeanour, and attention whenever Katherine required it.
