PAMELA BACKLUND

Obituary of PAMELA TEREASA BACKLUND

PAMELA T. BACKLUND

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pamela Backlund on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Health Sciences Centre, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 63 years.

Pam was predeceased by her mother Terry in 2001 and her father Raymond in 1987.

She has left behind her life partner Joel, brother Mike (Lynne), step-daughters Maribeth (Nonie) and Marites (Gord); step-son Brian; step-grandchildren Lauren, Bradley, Benjamin, Ivory, and Lucas; and extended family in Ontario, BC, and England.

Pam was born in Winnipeg on April 10, 1958 and met Joel in 1986. After briefly living in Toronto from 1989 to 1992, Pam and Joel returned to Winnipeg where Pam worked at Manitoba Health until she retired at age 60 as Senior Computer Operator.

Pam loved to travel and frequently visited Mexico and Cuba. She would never miss musical productions when they came to town as she loved live theatre and entertainment, including shows of her favourite bands and artists. Pam and Joel went to see many concerts together, from the WSO to Rock n’ Roll, she loved it all.

Pam absolutely loved cats and has left behind Lulu to keep Joel company and comforted.

She was a fighter and battled every day with an eye toward the future and refused to let her illness stop her from planning ahead and getting things done. She loved spoiling her grandkids and always looked forward to spending time with them. Pam was super witty and could make everyone laugh with her incredible sense of humour. She was good-natured and always saw the funny side of life. We will miss the hilarious way she told stories of her adventures with Joel and her best friend Evelyn. Most of all, we will miss the way she could brighten a room with her beautiful smile. She had a kindness you could see and feel just by being with her. We weren’t ready to say goodbye to you. The world is a darker place without your light, but your memory will stay with us forever. We love you Lola Pam.

The family is grateful for the care provided by doctors, nurses, and staff at HSC CancerCare. Viewing will be held on Monday, August 16 from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with prayers at 7:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St.  Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 17 at 1:00 p.m., also at the Chapel. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery.
