Obituary of MARVIN DOUGLAS SCHNELL

MARVIN DOUGLAS GRAHAM SCHNELL December 23rd, 1947 – December 24th, 2012 In loving memory of my husband Doug, who lost his battle to Cancer on December 24th, 2012. Doug leaves to mourn his wife Judy, daughter Rhonda and Jim, grandchildren Alexander and Nikolas, and his son Geoffrey and Erika; brothers Don and Malcolm; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Doug was predeceased by his parents Don and Dorothea. Doug was married to his wife Judy for 43 years. Doug attended Churchill High School and graduated from Gordon Bell High School for his final grade 12 year. After graduating, Doug worked in sales and marketing with various organizations such as Moyers School Supply and Scripline. Doug became ill with Liver Disease at the age of 34. After becoming ill he devoted the majority of his time to family and volunteering in the community. Doug worked as a volunteer for many years at the local Varsity View community center as well as the Winnipeg Monarchs and Winnipeg Blackhawks hockey clubs. In 1991 Doug was a part of the Winnipeg Hawks Midget Hockey team that won the 1991 Air Canada Cup as the Top Midget team in Canada. In addition Doug did some player scouting for Princeton University and the Tacoma Rockets of the WHL during the 1990’s. After many years, Doug won his battle with Liver disease after getting a transplant on November 11th, 1997. Doug celebrated this victory by travelling with his wife Judy extensively in the new millennium. Highlights included trips to London, Paris, Stockholm, a tour throughout Italy, a trip to explore Australia, as well as tours of Spain, Morocco and Portugal. In total Doug explored 4 continents in his 65 years. Later in his life Doug enjoyed planning his next trips with Judy and exploring new places. As well as his passion for Hockey, the Montreal Canadians, the Winnipeg Jets and Formula one racing. He could always be found at his Grandsons sports and extracurricular events with a smile on his face. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital and the Health Sciences Center. A special thanks to the compassionate and caring staff of Riverview Palliative Care unit. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kelsey King Scholarship Fund for Linden Meadows School or the Lions Foundation for Tuxedo Chapter in Winnipeg. A Memorial Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1442 Main Street, on January 5th, 2013 at 12pm Noon.
