Obituary of MARILYN SHIARO

MARILYN SHIARO (NEE EZINICKI)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Shiaro. Marilyn passed on June 10, 2021 at  St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 73.  Marilyn leaves to mourn her passing her children Tim and Paul (Tasha); granddaughter Hannah; sister Laurie Miller (Andy); sister – in – law Valerie Desharnais (Ron); brother – in – law Len Kalinski (Mercy); nieces and nephews Kristjan Thompson (Alexandra), Holly Harms (Steven), Michelle Desharnais, Raun Desharnais (Susan); along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Bud Shiaro; sister Margaret Kalinski; parents John and Ruth Ezinicki; and parents – in – law Joe and Helen Shiaro.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care and support of Marilyn and her family in her final days.

Marilyn was born and raised in Winnipeg, earning her early scrapes, bumps, bruises and life lessons in Elmwood.  Growing up she enjoyed spending time with friends as well as heading out to the family cottage at Brereton Lake.  She continued to do this with her own family into her adult life, and they greatly enjoyed that experience.

She moved to Selkirk to start a family with her husband Bud; here they built a home and raised two boys.  On top of her very full time job as a mother she worked as a nurse for several years at Selkirk General Hospital and later at Personal Care Homes in town.  This caring nature came in handy when fixing up numerous childhood injuries on her boys. She ensured that all members of her family were happy and healthy. When she was done wearing those groovy nursing shoes, she took a job working at………the school of nursing.  In addition to these jobs she spent time working at the Selkirk Art Centre and in a local MLA’s Constituency Office. 

Marilyn enjoyed puttering around the house, working in the yard and hosting holiday meals (family and friends will tell you that, for example, 15 in attendance meant preparing food for 30).  She could be counted on to ensure that those around her always had a little more than they needed.  Nobody ever left hungry or thirsty and all enjoyed an outstanding meal and visit.  Family was paramount to Marilyn and this was evident; her eyes would light up whenever she saw her granddaughter Hannah. 

Marilyn enjoyed winter travels to Bucerias, Mexico with her husband Bud.  She made friends there and even had her kids up for a visit (this was a ‘one off’ as the cost of ‘hydration supplies’ ran over budget).  Her and Bud also built a cottage on Lake Winnipeg and family and friends enjoy the location to this very day. 

They say ‘it takes a village’.  Mom struggled with health concerns over the past while and the family is deeply touched by all of the love and support they / she received during these times.

An interment and Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
