Obituary of JOSE SILVA DIAS
José Silva Dias
January 24, 1940 – May 30, 2021
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of José at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Etelvina, sons: Helder (Natercia), Mark (Sandra), Rick (Tanya) and grandkids: Victoria, Melania, Mateo, and Markus.
José was born in Alcanena, Portugal. During his youth he was involved in bicycle racing and became an avid racer touring various towns with his team. He became known around town as “José das Bicicletas”. (Joe of the bikes) After living in France for a few years, he immigrated to Canada in 1967. He worked in construction all his life for various companies making many friendships along the way. He was an immensely proud Canadian but always loved and looked forward to returning to Portugal for yearly vacations.
In the seventies he became a member and lifelong volunteer of the Portuguese Association of Manitoba. He served his community through many different roles; always willing and able to help in whatever was needed from construction to finance or working the bar-b-que at Portuguese picnics.
After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and helping his sons with any projects where he could lend a hand. He loved his garden and getting together with friends at the Portuguese clubs to play cards and cheer on his beloved Sporting.
We wish to thank all the many friends and family that have reached out to offer condolences and support.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021, at 10:00. Arrangements are entrusted to Cropo Funeral Chapel. Due to current health restrictions the service will be live streamed.
