Obituary of CLIFFORD STANLEY SMITH
CLIFFORD “CLIFF” STANLEY SMITH
On Sunday, March 21, 2021, Cliff passed away at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. He will be sadly missed by his son Dwaine (Anne) of Kamloops, BC, daughter Kim (Wes) of Winnipeg, his sister Audrey Stevens of Winnipeg, and brother Howard (Louise) of Dugald and survived by the mother of his children Pat (nee MacLean) of Winnipeg. Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Lillian. Cliff will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren (Allanah, Chelsea, Karli, Melanie, Russell and Stephan), great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Born on August 25, 1942 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Cliff attended school in Dugald and Oakbank and started his career as an electrician in the early 1960s in Dauphin and Brandon before returning to Winnipeg. Ultimately settling back in Dugald to raise his own family. Cliff retired in the late 1990s as an electrical inspector for the City of Winnipeg. Cliff had an affinity for adventure within Canada which was passed down to both his children who worked in some of the northern reaches of Manitoba and Canada. His passion for aviation also ran in the family and his son ended up with a career in the aviation industry. Cliff loved to work, which led his son to tag along with his dad to help with weekend jobs. He always doted on his daughter, and lovingly nicknamed her Tweety Bird.
In his later years, he enjoyed gardening, spending time with his dog Charlie, visiting with his grandchildren on Saturday mornings, carpooling them to extracurricular activities, staying current on world events, and watching a variety of sports. While at Deer Lodge, he would often watch the planes flying overhead, and spend time outdoors.
Sincere thanks to the absolutely amazing staff and volunteers at Deer Lodge Centre, and the Grace Hospital. We will forever be grateful.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private service will be held on March 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. followed by an interment at Sunnyside Cemetery. In memory of our dad, donations can be made to Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, Canadian Blood Services or a charity of one’s choice.
