I have such fond memories of growing up with the Horodyski family living right across the street from us. Their oldest daughter Angie & I were born a day apart! Leo & Fran took us kids on many adventures that included hiking, snowmobiling and trips up to their family cottage, We couldn’t have had better neighbors and we have always kept in touch.
Love Debbie Dupley and The Dupley family

Leo was my Chemistry teacher in the early St. James Collegiate years.. He was one of my favorite teachers. I remember a chemistry lab where we had us observe a candle flame and report what we saw. Even today I can visualize that class. He made learning fun. Years later when I became a teacher in the division I had the opportunity to tell how much I enjoyed being in his class. I can easily say that he made a difference in the lives of many of his students. He was great teacher and a kind and caring person.

I knew Leo when I taught at St. James Collegiate. He and I had a great relationship because I taught carpentry and he had many projects that he wanted advice for. He already had many skills as far as construction was concerned but just needed some advice as well as the use of the many machines in the shop. He was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor. After I retired from St. James and went to Kildonan-East Collegiate he again found me and the relationship continued. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

I was in his chemistry class at St James Collegiate in the mid 1970's for grades 11 and 12. He was a great teacher, explaining all those formulas and interactions in a logical way. I owe a great deal to him, because after high school I went to U of M for nursing. In first year, there was a required chemistry course for students entering health professions (nursing, lab, pharmacy, dietician, etc). It emphasized organic chemistry, and covered the basics we would need to understand concepts like acid-base balance in blood, kidney function, etc. SO many of my classmates really struggled with that chemistry course - and I breezed right through it and got an A+. Definitely owed that to Mr Horodyski. I can still picture him in that white lab coat writing formulas on the chalkboard. He made big contribution to a lot of kids' lives. My condolences to the family.

Mr Horodyski was the best Chemistry teacher and he and I had fun in class. I went to St James 1974-76. He challenged students to learn and made chemistry fun. His class respected him and he was one of the best teachers at St James Collegiate. Know that your Dad made a difference in the world as a great teacher and those of us he taught were far better off in life with his life lessons too. May MR. Chemistry Horodyski Rest In Peace, and teach God the Periodic tables. God Bless him and all your family.
Greg Braun (School President 1976 and memorized the periodic table too)

I am truly sorry to hear of your Leo’s passing. I worked with Leo at Sturgeon Creek Collegiate in the past, and I wanted to say that he was a wonderful man. He was highly respected by the teaching staff and his dry sense of wit was greatly appreciated many times during our annual “skits” staff meeting held in June. He contributed to the sense of fun that was felt there due to the great camaraderie we had in that building. He always treated me with respect and kindness as a fellow staff member, which I really appreciated as a new teacher at that time. He extensive knowledge about science was imparted to many generations of students, and he should be recognized for his professional contribution to education. I believe he will be truly missed by all the staff who taught in that building when he worked there, and the students he helped, especially those who went on to careers related to science. Rest in peace, my friend.
Sincerely,
Heather Rose, Teacher
St. James-Assiniboia School Division

I worked for many years with Leo at Sturgeon Creek. Leo was a very well respected science teacher and had a great sense of humour. Every time I drive by Royal Lake, I think of Leo. I know he and Francine loved snowmobiling. He often told the story of when Francine got lost on a trip by snowmobile to the US. RIP Leo.
