Obituary of DONALD JAMES KUBARA

DONALD JAMES KUBARA

While in the hospital on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at age 71 years, Don lost his 2 year battle with leukemia.

He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Michael Sr., sister Judy Szun and brother Michael Wayne Jr.

Don is survived by his youngest brother Richard (Brenda), nephew Paul Szun (Val), brother-in-law Eugene, niece Janelle, his Godchildren; nephew Adam, niece Lisa Danko, close cousin Elaine Kubara, and many other relatives and friends.

Don was raised in the family home that our father built by himself at 1118 Aberdeen Ave., Winnipeg, where he attended Lord Nelson, Andrew Mynarski and Sisler High School. After Grade 11 Don attended RRC College to acquire his Electrical / Construction Degree.

His co-workers over the years named him "K-Boss" while working on many big contracts in Winnipeg including the Richardson Bldg, Fairmont Hotel, Trizec, Royal Bank Ctr, the Walmarts, Costcos and Childrens Hospital etc.  One of his proudest accomplishments was the electrical construction of the huge Atlantis Hotel Casino Complex on Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas, with his close co-worker and friends Greg and wife Carol Mazor. While there for several years, he met and chatted with many famous people, including Oprah, Sean Connery, Chuck Norris, Julia Roberts, Yasmine Bleeth, Michael Jordan and many others.

In retirement Don loved spending his summers at our cottage on Big Whiteshell Lake where he enjoyed fishing off his deck at the lakefront, or even more out in his boat with close buddy Allan Melnyk.

Don was aka "The Chicken Man” while supplying bulk chicken strip orders to friends wherever he went. Don was at coffee for 6:00 a.m. most days in Leila Ave. McDonald's with his close friend Gerry Berch and then visiting everyone at Home Depot and Surplus Direct. A big thank you to all of his close friends who appreciated Don's trusting character.

Special thanks to Nurses; Tracy, Sherise and Dr. Paulson at CancerCare Manitoba.

You were always a very loving and caring brother to me Don and everyone will  especially miss your companionship, humour and generous heart, while remembering all the great times we shared together,

"God Bless Your Soul Don, you were a very special person"

your loving Brother Richard and Family.

A Private Family Service has been held for Don.

Donations to Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church.
