Obituary of VALERIE ANN MALLETT-FONTAINE
VALERIE ANN MALLETT-FONTAINE
On January 14, 2021 our beloved Valerie passed away peacefully at the age of sixty two years after a courageous battle with lung cancer at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg.
Valerie was predeceased by her husband Morley Fontaine, her parents Mary and Ben Mallett, sisters Merdina, Lorraine and one in infancy brother Brian, daughter Virginia and grandchild Justin. She is survived by her children Justin (Amber), Merri-lee and Cherisse, 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Valerie faced many difficult times and overcame them all. Her children and family remember with great pride
One of her best known accomplishments was her time spent working and training at the Up Shop on Selkirk Ave and later achieved becoming an independent living aide. We honor Valerie's fighting spirit and her determination to create a better life for herself as well as her bravery in the face of such difficult challenges.
Valerie loved her friends and family with all of her heart, and loved going to bingo with her daughters
She loved books and had a deep hunger for knowledge. She loved music and would sing her heart out any chance she got.
“Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am in the sunlight on ripened grain, I am in the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in morning's hush, I am the sweet uplifting rush, of quiet birds circled in flight. I am in the soft stars that shine brightly in the night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there, I did not die”.
Special thanks go out to Auntie Matilda and Merrilee who was there til mom left. Hillary and Colleen, who helped Valerie while still at home during her battle, and to the staff at CancerCare, nurses, doctors and to the nurses who tended to her in her final hours at 3E at Riverview.
She will be greatly missed by all.
