Obituary of DEBORAH KAYE GRIFFITHS

DEBORAH KAYE GRIFFITHS

It is with sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Deborah Kaye Griffiths (nee Gupman), 70, of Winnipeg Manitoba on January 18, 2021.

She was born in September 1950 in Elgin, North Dakota USA to loving parents Philip & Luella (Magstadt) Gupman.

Deborah studied Library and Social Sciences at Jamestown College and the University of North Dakota, achieving a degree in Library Science and Social Science in 1973. After graduating she went to teach in Australia for two years. While she was traveling before, she returned home she met Dad in New Zealand. She moved to Winnipeg in 1976 to start her new adventure of having a family.

She ran a home daycare for many years so she could be at home and raise her 5 wonderful but sometimes ornery children (they were a handful-haha) She was a devoted wife and mother. In the 1990’s Deborah stepped into the professional world with various business adventures and employment including The Free Press, Oma’s Bakeshop and World of Water. She completed her working years doing a job she loved, helping people learn, as an Educational and Lab Assistant at Miles Macdonell Collegiate from 1998 to 2016 when she retired.

She was known by many for her service and dedication to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saintsand was a renowned artistic cake baker and decorator in the community. She was a thoughtful woman of many talents who enjoyed learning as much as she did teaching. Deborah was a woman of many passions including painting, drawing, reading, crafting, sewing, cake decorating and wood working to name a few. She loved to laugh at puns and her own corny jokes (groan), and a certain glint in her eye meant she was likely up to mischief. Known for her calm and patient demeanor, she always had a smile on her face and a helping hand for others. Her charity knew no bounds. She is forever loved and remembered fondly by many.

Deborah leaves behind her husband of 45 years Norman, children Brenda (Carey) Gatz, Becky (Greg) Forness, Bonnie (Paul Schrof), Lindy, Ben (Kali Kaminsky), her mother Luella, brother Mark (Connie) Gupman, sister Ruth Stanley and grandchildren Brandan, Dylan, Kinsley, Trenton, Morgan, Chelsey, Nicholas, Ethan and Nathan.
