Obituary of MARY MALESKI

MARY MALESKI

(YASINSKI)

August 2, 1919 – January 1, 2021

It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of our dear Mother. Mom passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Saviour.

She was predeceased by her parents, Alexandria and Harry Yasinski, her husband Joseph, her daughter Linda, her brothers Michael and Charles; sisters Ann, Elsie, Kathy, Edna and Geraldine.

Mom is survived by her daughter Sharon (John), son Brian (Mariette) as well as 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and her sister Ethel; 5 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Mom was born in Calder, Saskatchewan and at the age of 12 went to reside with the Andres Family in Roblin, Manitoba.  Mom Left for Winnipeg in her late teens, met the love of her life, Joseph.  They were married in 1943.

Mom was a gracious, kind, gentle, loving woman with an infectious smile and a very big heart.  Mom was always accepting of all people no matter of race, colour or creed.  Mom was very proud she spoke 3 languages fluently.  She was loved by all especially her children and grandchildren.  We were blessed to have the best Mom and best Baba.

Mom was an exceptional homemaker and chef.  She always had a table set for anyone who dropped by.  Family dinners were very important and all our favourite dishes were served; perogies, cinnamon buns and pies were Mom’s specialties.

Throughout Mom’s life, her joy and happiness came from her love of family, friends and church.  Mom was a devout Catholic, never went to bed without saying her rosary.  Mom resided at St. Joseph’s Residence the last 7 ½ years and never missed a mass.  She was a member of St. Josephat Ukrainian Catholic Church and St. Michael’s Parish.  She was actively involved with the UCLA for over 50 years.

Mom spent many winters at her homes in Harbour Island, Bahamas, Lake Placid, Florida and summers at the cottage at Ingolf, Ontario.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to Maria and all the Exceptional staff at St. Joseph’s Residence in making Mom’s final days and hours comfortable and peaceful.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date when all of the family can attend and hopefully others.  Notice will be sent out by social media.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Family Committee of St. Joseph’s 1149 Leila Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2P 1S6.
