ELEANOR OLBRECHT

Obituary of ELEANOR OLBRECHT

ELEANOR OLBRECHT (NEE NAJEWICZ)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother and grandmother, Eleanor, on December 30th, 2020, at the age of 87.

Eleanor was pre-deceased by her mother, Mary Zwarycz and father, John Zwarycz. She is survived by: her husband, Stefan; her son, Ted; and her son, Chris, daughter in-law, Danna, and granddaughter, Kacie.

Eleanor was born on December 15th, 1933 in Sokal, Poland. In 1940, at age 7, Eleanor and her family were sent from Poland to Siberia, Russia, where they remained for 2 years. In 1942 they went to Lebanon and spent the duration of WW II there. In 1949 Eleanor and her family were given the opportunity to immigrate to Canada, and they chose Winnipeg. It was here that Eleanor met Stefan and they were eventually married on June 16, 1951.

For more than 63 years they spent their time raising and supporting their family, and creating many wonderful memories. Eleanor especially enjoyed; family get-togethers and special occasions, spending time outdoors at the cottage (blueberry and mushroom picking and gardening), as well as cooking and baking for family and friends. You could never leave their home without a "care package" of her delicious recipes and home-baked treats! Eleanor also possessed an amazing "green thumb" and was constantly growing and nurturing the most beautiful plants and trees, both indoors and outdoors. Many of these adorn our homes and yards and are "living reminders" of her for all of us. We will miss her greatly!

A private family service to celebrate Eleanor's life will be held on Friday, January 8th, 2021 at St. John Cantius Church. The interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery.

Special thank you to the staff at St. Joseph's Residence for their kind, compassionate care of our wife, Mom and Babcia.
