JAKOB LEISS

Obituary of JAKOB LEISS

Jakob Leiss, also known as Grandpa, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2020 at the age of 90.  He is now reunited with his wife of 62 years, Ruth Leiss.

Jakob is survived by daughter Elaine, sons Gordon (Diana), and Ken (Lee).  Grandchildren Christina (Scott), Jennifer (Richard), Jakob, Mark (Rhonda), Jordon, Mathew, Kimberly, Krystal (Kevin).  Great grandchildren Eve, Anna, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Tayler, Megan, Amber, Avalea, Auden, Braeden, Kaliegh, Nolan, Emily, Sadie, Riley, Zachary, London, Parker as well as numerous family members in Germany.  He was predeceased by his wife Ruth and his grandson Jesse.

Jakob was born in Raunheim Germany and later came to Canada in his early twenties. He settled in Winnipeg where he met Ruth.  They married on April 26, 1958 and celebrated 59 years together.  Jakob and Ruth raised 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

Jakob and Ruth spent most of their summers at Nutimik beach in the Whiteshell.  Jakob had built a camper trailer for his family and many great memories were made there.  He instilled the joys of camping and fishing into his children at a young age. Jakob would travel into the city on weekdays for work at Varta Battery, where he worked for over 30 years.

Jakob loved to build, repair and create many things in his garage.  It was well known that he could fix anything with epoxy.  He built tables and shelves and had even built and installed his own kitchen cabinets.  Grandpa spent many hours with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He would spend hours watching movies, WWF wrestling, repairing bicycles, building sandboxes and putting toys back together with his epoxy.

Evenings in the Leiss household were often filled with good food and laughter.  Country western music would be playing while card games were being played in the kitchen.  The door to their home was always open to friends and family from near and far.  There was always room for guests in the ‘back bedroom’.

Family was important to Grandpa.  He never missed a soccer game, school play, or grandchild’s birthday.  He could always be found with his video camera in hand, making sure to catch his family’s special memories on film.

Grandpa is loved and will be missed by so many.  We rest easy knowing he is reunited once again with Grandma.

The family would like to thank Donwood Manor personal care home for their exceptional care the last two years.

Cremation will take place and per Jakob’s wishes there will be no service held.
