JOSÉ JOAQUIM RIBEIRO DA SILVA

March 5, 1936 – December 26, 2020

Sadly, Joe Da Silva passed away in his sleep on the early morning of December 26, 2020 at Holy Family Home at the age of 84.  He spent his final days surrounded by family and under the very attentive and compassionate care of staff.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years Aurora, daughters Maria J. (Victor), Elizabeth (Tony) and Danielle (Tino), Grandsons Victor M. (Robyn), Gil and Tozé, Granddaughters Paula (André), Diana (Diniz) and Tania, great grandsons Mateo and Leo and Great granddaughters Ália, Safira and Evette and extended family and friends in Portugal, France, and Canada.

Joe was born on March 5^th, 1936 in Portugal. He married Aurora on February 21, 1960 and due to the economic and political challenges of the day he decided to risk a long journey by foot to France in an attempt to provide for his young family. From there an opportunity presented itself for him to come to Canada and in 1968 he arrived in Winnipeg and lived here ever since.  As is the case with many immigrants, he was committed to working hard to provide for his family and spent many dedicated years at Boreland Construction and Maple Leaf Construction.

He had a passion for the outdoors, in particular, fishing and hunting and seized every opportunity to barbeque for the family.

His playful character and wonderful soothing smile will be sorely missed. We know that we will see him again. Rest in peace in the arms of our Saviour until that time arrives.

We would like to thank the staff at the Holy Family Home for going above and beyond in the dedicated care of our loved one. We can never fully express our gratitude.

A private family viewing will be held in early January.
