Obituary of OLGA PALMER
OLGA PALMER
(Malenchuk)
August 19, 1927 – November 20, 2020
With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie and sister-in-law, Olga Palmer at the age of 93.
Mom is lovingly remembered by her daughters Marianne (Blaine) Troup and Katherine (Dennis) Dane, grandchildren Lynda Troup, Sheryl (Kevin) Goleski, Kiersten (Court) Isaak, Ardal Dane and great-grandson Matthew Goleski. Sister-in-laws Lillian Dowbenko and Ruth Wolfe, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband George in 2008 a few weeks short of their 60th Anniversary. Brothers Steve, Amel, Walter and sister Marie Schmidt; brother and sister-in-laws, Victor Schmidt, Anne Malen, Olga Malenchuk, Stan and Anne Palmer, Eddie Wolfe and her nieces, Pat Boyer and Sandy and Linda Dowbenko.
Throughout her life her personal happiness came from the joy and love of her family and her church. Mom worked full-time but never seemed too tired to bake or cook for us and whenever anyone needed her, she was there. Mom was a very kind, loving person and thought of others before herself. She always had a smile to give.
Mom was a very independent person who worked from a very young age starting at Canada Packer’s as a teenager and then Eaton’s for 38 years until her retirement in 1991. She was affectionately known as the “Donut Lady” and touched many strangers’ lives with her smile and was recognized by Eaton’s many times over the years for her caring ways.
Mom had many true friends throughout her lifetime and they all could count on her in different ways. Whenever she entered a room, everyone smiled. She was truly a lady known for her kind, caring manner. She was loved for her humour, her generosity and strength and made an everlasting impression on anyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her love of God was known by all. She was a member of Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League and received her 65 year pin in 2018. For many years, she was counted on for her singing skills. Even when she worked full time, she devoted many volunteer hours at Seven Oaks Hospital, St. Joseph’s Family Residence, Fred Douglas Lodge and Holy Family Nursing Home.
Mom has lived at the Holy Family Nursing Home since August, 2016. She always said how happy she was to be there and how great the staff were to her. We thank all her caregivers, including the kitchen staff, not only for their great care, but also the love and special attention they showed her every day. A special thank you to Linda, Tracy and Gana.
The family wishes to thank Brenda, Jeff, Wayne, Marilyn, Bob, Mary, Ruffus, Janet and Maureen for their many visits over the years. She appreciated it very much.
Mom, we honour you for all your years of unconditional love for your family, church and friends and will hold you forever in our hearts. All who have known you have truly been blessed.
