Obituary of GEORGE BILAN
GEORGE BILAN
December 5, 1933 – November 10, 2020
George Bilan, 86 years old, passed away Nov 10, 2020 after a short fight with cancer.
George was pre-deceased by his wife Mary and his son Donald. Left to cherish his memory are son George, daughter Sharon, Son in law Manny, grandsons Shawn and Matthew. He is also survived by two bothers Nick and Steve and two sisters Sophie and Cathy as well as his close friend Dianne.
George Bilan was born in the province of Manitoba on December 5, 1933 to Maricha and Alex Bilan. He completed his schooling in Hadashville, MB. After his schooling George found work at Canada Packers and was employed there for over 30 years.
In 1959 he married Mary and they resided in North Kildonan for many years. They were active members of St. Anne’s Ukrainian Catholic church. George never hesitated and would roll up his sleeves when it came to helping with the growth of the church.
George had many hobbies and interests. In the early years he would camp with the family from one coast to the other, in their beloved popup tent trailer. He loved to work on vehicles with his boys, and he passed on his mechanical skills to his grandsons. Fishing was another one of his great past times. You would often find him on the piers of Gimli or even just by the waters’ edge, listening to the waves. Later in life, George enjoyed his travels through Texas and he would fish there as well.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday Nov. 21, 2020 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, followed by interment at Holy Family Cemetery. Due to recent events, this will be held for immediate family only.
