Obituary of EUGENE NIKITIN
EUGENE NIKITIN
JUNE 19, 1925 - NOVEMBER 3, 2020
On November 3, 2020 Eugene Nikitin peacefully passed away at the age of 95.
Eugene was born in Vilnius, Poland, the only son of John and Anna Nikitin. Eugene had a memorable childhood and was a gifted student but unfortunately wartime strife caused much disruption. After being forced from the family home, the family immigrated to Canada in 1949 and he became a very proud Canadian citizen in 1954.
In the first few years Eugene worked as a farm labourer and then as a “fish counter” at Booth Fisheries near Selkirk. He was active in his church and that is where he met a stunning young lady named Nina Reinis. With the help of his mother, Eugene asked Nina out on a date and they were married in 1957. Eugene always worked hard and attended school. In 1965 he graduated as a Registered Industrial and Cost Accountant from the University of Manitoba and began his career at Revenue Canada.
Family, friends and hobbies were Eugene’s passions in life. Hunting and fishing were always on the agenda as well as the stories which followed for a long time afterwards. He had a special bond with his hunting dog Baron that lasted many years. He enjoyed devouring history books, speaking 4 languages and playing chess. From an early age, Eugene was an accomplished musician, both in classical guitar and piano. Parties with friends always included forming a band, with Nina doing vocals and becoming quite raucous affairs. He enjoyed his time at their Patricia Beach cottage and later on spending winters in Florida with Nina.
Eugene was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection. He was a fixture in the choir for many years.
Eugene was predeceased by his parents John (1975) and Anna (1981) and his beloved wife Nina (2006).
Left to remember him are family members Ksenia Chernishov, George (Karen) Chernishov, Corey and Sean Chernishov and Tanya Chernishov-Vigor and many friends.
We wish to extend a special thank you to the staff at Charleswood Care Centre for the excellent care and attention that Eugene received.
The funeral will be at the Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection and interment will be at Brookside Cemetery.
Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions, attendance will be by invitation only.
