Obituary of JOHN STEVENSON
JOHN STEVENSON
July 13, 1928 – August 28, 2020
Peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2020, John passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 92.
John was predeceased by his wife, Ann, of 66 years, his parents, Florence and Archibald Stevenson, brothers Eddie and William, sisters Peggy and Florence, mother-in-law, and father-in-law Mary and James McHale, and brother-in-law James – all of Scotland.
John’s memory will forever be cherished by sister-in-law Mary Peddie and family, brother-in-law John McHale, niece Florence (Dave) McClelland in Scotland, and his special friends, Linda Harding, Val Bewcyk, and their respective families, as well as Kelly Jaques.
John was born on July 13, 1928, in Kirkintilloch, Scotland. He married the love of his life, Ann, on July 16, 1948. They moved to Canada in 1957 and resided in Winnipeg.
He was employed at Manitoba Bridge and drove taxi before landing a much-loved job at Winnipeg Transit in their maintenance department, which he worked from 1961 to 1988, using only two sick days in 27 years.
John and Ann loved to travel, especially to Hawaii and back home to Scotland.
John loved to golf, play darts, and dance every weekend at the Transcona Legion #7. He loved to sing songs from Scotland and recite “Robbie” Burns poetry.
John was deeply loved by all who knew him and he will be deeply missed.
John has requested that no formal funeral service take place. Cremation has already been completed and he is now back home in Scotland to be with his love, Ann.
A special thank you to Dr. Lindsay Torbiak and Dr. Chris Hanson, Lori Krysko, and the staff of Lodge 2 East for their attentive and loving care of our Johnnie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
“Afore you go!” Sláinte.
