Obituary of MARIA KUKUSIK

MARIA KUKUSIK Maria passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 in the afternoon at Holy Family Home with her daughter Jane by her side at the age of 90 years. Maria was born May 19, 1922 in a border town called Zukotyn in Poland / Ukraine. She was the one of 4 sisters and 2 brothers. She grew up working on a farm with livestock and worked the fields. She left her home early when the Second World War started and was taken to a labour camp. After the war she worked in a school doing maintenance work in Poland. Then she came to Canada, worked at various jobs sewing, hotel, housekeeping. She was an excellent cook and loved her garden. She belonged to Holy Ghost Church and loved signing in the choir. Maria’s sense of humour is what the family will treasure forever. Her faith in God sustained her throughout her life and brought joy and light in her darkest times. Her family was her life; she had 2 daughters; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She was a very hands on grandmother. She was predeceased by her parents John and Ewa; her sister Katrzyna; her daughter Anna and her granddaughter Anita. Many thanks and gratitude to the staff at Holy Family Home. There are too many to name, you all know we had fun and good times with my mother. Special thanks to Paully and Anne Jarczuk. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 5 at 12:00 noon at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
