Obituary of REGINALD CHARLES CASSIE

REGINALD CHARLES CASSIE On Monday, August 10, 2020, Reg passed away peacefully at Health Science Centre from complications of kidney disease. Reg leaves behind his brother Norm (Sylvia), sister Elaine (Bill and family) his son Donnie (Joyce and family) and sister-in-law Pat and family. He was predeceased by wife Diane, mother Helen, brothers Marshall, Donald, and his partner of over 40 years, Bernice. Reg was the oldest of five children raised by our mother who was a single parent. When we were still quite young, we moved to Flora Place in the North End where there was a number of large single parent families. The home was quite small, around 600 sq. ft. with a coal stove for heat. For many years, there was a feeling of community with the Flora Place families where many longtime friendships were made. After leaving school early, Reg went out to find employment and help our mother take care of us. In our teens, Mom moved us to Atlantic Ave. Reg worked as a mover for Eaton’s and spent a few years with Ontario Highways. Reg would later work for Motor Coach for over 30 years and enjoyed many years of retirement with Bernice. While living at his home on Bannerman, they enjoyed gardening in the backyard and listening to his record collection, in particular, Elvis. He also enjoyed reading and writing poetry. For the last 5 years, Reg resided at Cathedrale Manor where he enjoyed socializing with fellow neighbours. Special thanks to Rhonda and helpful staff The family thanks the HSC Dialysis and other medical staff, notably the 3rd and 4th floor wards for their exceptional care of our brother. There will be a private family graveside service later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kidney Foundation.
