Obituary of MILDRED MARIE ZAROWSKI

MILDRED MARIE ZAROWSKI (nee YUSKEWICH) March 30, 1927 – July 24, 2020 It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mildred on Friday, July 24, 2020 at home at the age of 93. Mildred is survived by her daughter Cathy, son-in law David (Bowman), grandson Andrew, brother-in-law Stanley Watowich, nieces and nephews and their families, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John, mother and father Anne and Dmytro Yuskewich, dear cousin Marge Warrenchuk, close friend Liz Gaerke, sister-in-law Vera Watowich, brother-in-law Vladimir Zarowski, as well as many close friends and family. Mom grew up on Grove Street in Point Douglas. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and immediately after graduation began working in statistics and analytics at CN Rail where she stayed for the next 19 years. She married John on September 6, 1958 and worked alongside him at Harbison Pharmacy until his passing in 1972. After John’s passing she raised Cathy as a single mother. She volunteered many hours at Holy Family Nursing Home, Ronald McDonald House, and anything else Cathy could talk her into helping with. In her younger days she travelled to many places in Canada and the USA. She loved going to the “States” for the day or a weekend get-away, and she and Cathy enjoyed many vacations together. We were fortunate that over the last 20 years we were able to take many road trips to attend family reunions. She loved seeing her nieces and nephews and their families and watching the next generation grow up and spend time together. Mildred loved going to the casino and enjoyed bingo and coffee time at the social club in her apartment building. She was a deeply religious person and up until the last year attended mass regularly at St. Alphonsus Church. The best day of her life was when her grandson Andrew was born. He was the light of her life and they shared a truly special bond until her passing. When he was young she babysat him, which transitioned to picking him up from elementary school and then in junior high he took the bus to her apartment. She was a fabulous cook and baker, and shared her knowledge of Ukrainian cooking with Andrew. Most recently he was the one making the dishes and taking them to her to critique. They enjoyed going for breakfast at the Eye Opener, for hot dogs at Half Moon, and sharing A & W Mozza burgers at her apartment. They talked daily and Baba was always interested in hearing about what he was doing at university. Mom, I am so proud to have been raised by such a strong and independent woman. You loved me unconditionally, supported my dreams, and were there with a shoulder to cry on when things didn’t quite go as planned. We will all miss you every day but we know that God has prepared a special place for you in Heaven. I hope that you found Dad and are dancing to your favourite songs. In accordance with Mildred’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at Holy Family Cemetery.
