Doris Lewy

Obituary of Doris Sarah Lewy

We are saddened to lose our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Doris Lewy on July 11, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband Walter, son George, brothers Fred and George and sisters Minnie, Betty and Lillie. She is survived by her daughters Dorian (Lionel Guerard) and Karen; grandchildren Laurie (Jim DeGroot), Jennifer Leslie and Hudson Fedun; great grandchildren Paul, Kalyn and Jamie Wiebel, Brennan and Hawkin Leslie; nephew Gord (Jill), niece Avril and their families; and cousins in England. Doris was born in England and came to Canada in 1921. She was always hard-working. From receiving her Grade X Music certificate, to graduating as a Radio Technician in 1945, to being involved in organizations such as the Women’s Auxiliary of the Polish Legion and a member of P.E.O. International, to continuing to knit and crochet right up to her final days. She was a loving and giving woman, always ready to lend a hand, cook a meal or share what she had and was happiest when the house was filled with family and friends. For many years the family had a cottage at Jessica Lake which they lovingly built from the ground up and where they spent many happy days fishing, swimming and playing cards. She loved to travel. From homestead visits to Poland and England, to visiting exotic places on many cruises in her later years. Her joy in life was playing the piano and she continued to share her music right up to the end. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Riverview Health Centre for making her final days so special. A private service was held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “The Winnipeg Foundation – The Manitoba P.E.O. Foundation Fund” or a charity of your choice. Please share your thoughts and memories on the Cropo Condolences page. We would love to hear from you.
