Obituary of MICHAŁ (MICHAEL) KAPELUCH

MICHAŁ (MICHAEL) KAPELUCH It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and godfather. On Tuesday afternoon, May 26th, 2020, after a lengthy battle with multiple myeloma, Michał (Michael) Kapeluch passed away peacefully and surrounded by his wife and son at Grace Hospital. Michał was born on August 6th, 1953 in Borzytuchom, Poland to his parents Andrzej Kapeluch and Katarzyna (Madejczyk). He would be later blessed with a younger brother and sister who helped him work on their farm while their dad worked for the railway. In 1973, Michał graduated from Electrical College in Słupsk and went on to work at the Dolna Odra Power Station where he met his future wife Bozena (Grabarczyk). Mike came to Winnipeg in November of 1979 and after Martial Law was declared in Poland in 1981 he was able to get his immigrant status and eventual Canadian citizenship. Bozena joined him in 1986 and they were married on December 23rd of the same year. After living for a short time in Gillam, Manitoba, they moved to Hudson Hope, British Columbia where they had their son, Nicholas. In the Fall of 1989, the family moved back to Gillam, where Mike worked the remainder of his career with Manitoba Hydro. Earlier in his life, Michał enjoyed Judo and hiking in the mountains. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, particularly big-game. He would often go on multi-day caribou or elk hunts with his friends and he took pride in sharing with everyone. Michael worked as a paramedic and volunteer fire chief. Later, he even served with the Canadian Rangers. Education was important to Mike as well; he was an active member on the School Board in Gillam for many years. He was also an active parishioner and Extraordinary Minister in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Gillam. Michael was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Halina. Left to cherish many fond memories of Mike are his wife (Bozena), son (Nick), brother (Bogdan), and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends across the world. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice, ideally supporting education, wildlife conservation, or cancer research.
