Obituary of STEFAN GARBACZ

STEFAN GARBACZ 1940 - 2020 It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Stefan Garbacz on May 26, 2020. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Zofia; sons, Roman and Edward (Penny); and his beloved grandchildren, Liam, Caleb and Sophia; niece Kristina Gingell; nephew Ed Sipinski (Anna) and their children Melissa (Mike) and Richard; and numerous family in Canada and Poland. He was predeceased by his sister Adela from Winnipeg; and his brothers and sisters in Poland. Stefan was born to Juliana Bebenek and Kaźimiez Garbacz on January 4th 1940 in Poland. As a young man Stefan served in the military when he was of age to complete his two years of mandatory military training. He then worked as a coal miner for 2 years and briefly worked two other jobs before charting a new course in life. He decided to move to Canada and with the help of his Sister (Adela) and brother-in-law (John) he immigrated to Canada in 1973. He quickly adapted and settled into his career as a commercial roofer for 38 years. He was a hard worker and retired with Northwestern Roofing in 2005 at the age of 65. He met his love Zofia through a mutual friend in 1975. Lovingly married for 43 years to Zofia, Stefan was a caring husband, patient and a provider for his family. He worked for the service of others and would be of assistance at any time of the day. He loved his grandchildren dearly and smiled from ear to ear in their presence. He often commuted to look after them and never seemed to tire with their abundance of energy and always looked forward to his next visit. He developed a special bond with his grand kids that will be forever missed. Dad enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Family gatherings were celebrations that he enjoyed and treasured. One of Stefan's hobbies was playing video games and he would often play his favourites. He enjoyed working around the house and spending time with Zofia in the garden, tending to the plants and flowers. He enjoyed forging for mushrooms and blueberries, the outdoors and travelling with family. In his younger years Stefan took the family on many road trips within Canada and the U.S. He was gifted at renovating and continued to help family with various renovations up until his passing and leaves behind various projects he wanted to complete. In his later years Stefan and Zofia were able to spend more time enjoying each other's company and we are forever grateful they were able to make these memories together. Stefan was a remarkable man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends who knew him well. A private service will be held with family, cremation to follow.
