Obituary of GWEN MICHAELS
GWEN MICHAELS (HUMNISKY)
December 22, 1921 - April 23, 2020
Peacefully on April 23rd our mother, nana, and great-nana passed away at Lions Personal Care Centre. She was 98 years young.
Gwen was born in Colchester, Essex, England on December 22nd 1921. She was the only child. In 1941 She met and married Alex Humnisky and had 3 children. In 1946 Gwen came to Canada as an English war bride. Upon arriving to a new country Gwen lost her infant son. Gwen worked for Child and Family Services as a Homemaker, cooking, cleaning and taking care of children in different homes. She worked in the kitchen at Eaton's and cleaning houses. Life sure wasn't easy for Gwen, however no matter the circumstance she always worked hard for her family with a smile on her face. In 1953 she met George and in 1955 they had their daughter Linda. Together they shared their life until George's passing in 1989. Gwen loved to travel, she went to Hawaii, England and often visited family and friends in B.C. and Ontario, she also loved her casino trips with Sylvia to the USA.
A happy go lucky person with an infectious laugh that you could hear a mile away. Gwen always stood up for the underdog in any situation, standing up for what was right and always willing to lend a helping hand to others. She made everyone feel special and unconditionally loved. She was adored by everyone who met her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sylvia Pidhirney, Bill (Pat), Brian (Amelia), Linda Lowe (Murray).Grandchildren; Bev Early (Brent), Nancy Squire (Jeremy), Lorna Bourgeois (Kevin), Scott Lowe (Christy), Crystal Lowe, Steven & Chris Humnisky and 9 great grandchildren. Gwen was predeceased by her infant son Leonard in 1946, her first husband Alex and her second husband George and also her son in law Lorne Pidhirney.
The family is most grateful to the Lions Personal Care Centre, 3rd floor staff for all the great care they gave.
In keeping with Gwen's wishes, cremation has taken place.
