Obituary of Katica Saulic

KATICA SAULIĆ With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear Majka, Katica Saulić on April 27, 2020 at Holy Family Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her husband Franjo, son Stipan, daughter-in-law Mira and siblings (Ana, Vita, Jozefina, Amalia and Franc). Majka was born on January 14, 1925 in Tavankut, Vojvodina to parents Roza and Kalman Jakovčević. She was the youngest of 6 siblings. Majka`s strength and perseverance developed in her childhood as she lost her father at a young age. She was a hard worker who strived for order and respect. She had a strong work ethic. The day was never done until the job was done. She married Franjo Saulić in 1949 at the age of 24. They had two children, Stipan and Jozefina. Majka spent her days running the homestead. Unfortunately, she became a widow early in life. Shortly after in 1977 she made the difficult decision to immigrate to Canada where she would join her sister Amalia and daughter Jozefina. She worked at Silpit Industries as a pieceworker. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, reading and watching her favorite shows. Majka was proud to have learned the English language through her reading of the Winnipeg Free Press, magazines and conversing with her granddaughters. She played a pivotal role in raising her granddaughters Kathy and Marica. In her later years she loved being with her great grandchildren watching them play and making them treats and French fries. Majka was proud and grateful to live in Canada but always looked forward to her visits back to Tavankut. We are grateful for her tireless support and generosity throughout her life. She taught us respect, work ethic, strong character, determination and to always rise above any challenge. Mourning her loss but celebrating her life are her daughter Jozefina, son-in-law Peter Marincil, grandchildren Željko (Sanela) Saulić, Silvana (Ivica) Juhas, Kathy (David) Knezić and Marica Rampone and great grandchildren Marko, Marija, Nikola, Nevena, Dario, Jelena, Martina, Maya and Ava along with many other family and friends here and abroad. The family is grateful for the care she received at Holy Family nursing home. Thank you to the nurses and staff at St. Mary`s unit. Majko may you rest in peace ``my love-ić``!
