ROCCO FILLETI

Obituary of ROCCO FILLETI

Rocco Filleti August 10, 1946 – April 9th, 2020 It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Rocco Filleti at the age of 73, a friend to all whose lives he touched, on April 9th, 2020. Rocco was born August 10, 1946 in Acquaro di Cosoleto, Reggio Calabria, Italy, to Carmine and Pasqualina Filleti. He immigrated to Canada in 1963 to join his sister and her husband; Carmela and Vincenzo Ianno in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a young man he quickly entered the work force, gaining employment with Catelli Pasta. He later worked in construction as a concrete finisher; a job which he worked for several years in Winnipeg and Northern Manitoba. Upon his permanent return to Winnipeg, Rocco and his brother, Joe (Giuseppe), jointly decided to purchase Classic Billiards which is now known as Classics Billiards Bar & Grill. It was at this time that he also opened his first pizzeria, Rocco Pizza, in the neighborhood of St. James. He later expanded his operations by opening La Dolce Vita Restaurant & Lounge on Portage Avenue. It was always Rocco’s dream to be a proud business owner. Rocco was a kind, caring, and giving man. He tried to help as many people as he could with his generous nature. He developed a passion for cooking at an early age and was also an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting – especially with his father and brother, Tony. He enjoyed playing cards, particularly the game of Poker. Rocco was very well-known in the Poker community where he made countless friends over the years. Rocco is predeceased by his loving parents, Carmine and Paqualina Filleti, brothers Giuseppe, and Antonio Filleti, brother-in-law Vincenzo Ianno, and sister-in-law Judy Filleti. Left to mourn are his sisters, Carmela Ianno, Rosa (Frank) Militano, Maria (Rosario) Larizza, sister-in-law Angela Filleti, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins from the Filleti and Militano families, and family in Italy, Montreal, PQ, and Boston, MA. Due to the current restrictions on family gatherings related to the COVID19 virus, a private family service was held at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1800 Day Street with Fr. Sam Argenziano officiating. Entombment has taking place at Green Acres Cemetery in the Our Lady of Hope mausoleum. Lovingly remembered and sorely missed.
