Obituary of ALEXANDER ZALITACH

ALEXANDER (SANDY) ZALITACH With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sandy on November 10th at St. Anne Hospital. Beloved husband of Julie, father to Geri, Loni (Norm) Krysko, and Jeff (Kim). Adoring grandfather to Jonathan and Stephanie Bilan, Steven (Ferro) and Maggie Krysko, Chenelle (James) and Chelsea Zalitach. Sandy was predeceased by his brother Edward at infancy, parents Steve and Kay Zalitach, numerous aunts and uncles, and cousins Jerry Zalitach and Cyndi Pascoe. Sandy was born December 1, 1940 and lived his entire life in Prawda, Manitoba, where his parents built and operated the White Rose (Shell) Service Station. In 1970 Sandy and Julie added the restaurant to the station, and ran the business until 1984. After retiring from the service station, Sandy worked for the Department of Natural Resources in Falcon Beach, working as a trades helper, retiring in 2009. He was well-known for his natural talent for anything mechanical and wasn't afraid of a challenge. Over the last couple of years took on the project of restoring a 1946 Willys Jeep. He enjoyed helping his children and grandchildren with various home projects. Sandy and Julie recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on October 6th with family and friends. An active member of the Reynolds Community Club from its inception, construction, and maintenance, Board member or Director and current Vice President. Instrumental in operating and maintaining the Prawda Community Water Service. Sandy was President of St. Mary's Riverside Cemetery and active member of the Manitoba Agricultural Museum, where he enjoyed volunteering at their Annual Threshermen's Reunions for a number of years. Prayers will be held Wednesday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Reynolds Community Club, Prawda, with interment at St. Mary's Riverside Cemetery. Honourary pallbearers are his 6 grandchildren, Norman Krysko, Darren Zalitach, and Maurice Picklyk. Pallbearers are Jamie Zalitach, Dennis Kupiak, Glen Turchyn, Roy Howie, Maurice Yaremchuk, and Reynold Pluecks.
