Herb was a supervisor in Winnipeg when I worked out of Vancouver in the dining car in the 70s and 80s. A man of so many talents, and a sense of fairness and humour, and tireless. I learned a lot from just watching how he handled things and am grateful to have known him and looked up to him. Just want to give my condolences to his family (I worked with Joe too). Erín Moure (Vancouver then, Montreal now)

We are so saddened to hear of our dear friend Herb's passing. Our sincerest sympathies and condolences to his family.
I was privileged to work with Herb at the railway in Winnipeg. He was a great friend and mentor - a proud, caring, smart, and dedicated person who ensured fairness and equality was applied to all.
Thank you Herb for sharing so much of you with all of us, including your music and thoughts on life. You have made an impression on us all.
