Obituary of EUGENE BARANIUK

EUGENE (GENE) BARANIUK January 24, 1936 - January 11, 2020 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene on Saturday, January 11, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 83. Eugene will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Verla (Kasprick), daughter Charlene, grandson Braden (Monika) and his granddog Nacho. Eugene was born in Mountain Road, MB, one of eight children. He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Pearl, brothers Ron (Vennetta), Ed (Charlotte), brother-in-law Terry, his sister Cecile (Mike) and special nephew Rene. He leaves to cherish in his memory his siblings, Josie (Willie), Loraine, Phyllis, Richard (Virginia), beloved niece Darlene and numerous nieces and nephews. Eugene was employed with the City of Winnipeg for 33 years, until his retirement. He also worked part-time at Pizza Place for 12 years and was awarded twice for Safe Driving. Eugene was passionate about his vehicles and amassed many during his lifetime. One of his favourites was his pink and black 1956 Chrysler. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his tomato and cucumber plants. His retirement days were spent taking care of his family, walking his granddog Nacho, road trips and visits with family and friends that always included playing a good game of cards. He also enjoyed daily coffee with his Burger King buddies. Eugene will be fondly remembered for his kindness, willingness to help others, welcoming nature and devotion to his family. He will be sadly missed and will remain in our hearts forever. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and health care aids at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit and Grace Hospice for their compassion and care. Sincere heartfelt thanks to Carl for the many visits to Eugene during his stay in the hospital. In accordance with Eugene’s wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will follow at a later date. A celebration of life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg, MB, Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to cherish your time with family and loved ones.
