Obituary of WILLIAM THATER

William (Bill) Thater

January 17th, 1957-December 2, 2019

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Bill Thater on December 2nd, 2019. With family by his side, Bill lost his battle with pancreatic cancer despite his courageous fight.

Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife Celina, Brother Hans Thater(Lesia), step-sons Adam(Michelle) Bernhardt, Dean(Brie-Ann) Bernhardt and David(Christine) Bernhardt. Precious Grandsons Sam and Sheldon Bernhardt. Step-Mother Marianne Thater, step-sisters Petra Noack Menzies (Bill) and Claudia Noack Mandock and step-brother Roger Noack. Sisters-in-laws Mary Wojciechowski, Elizabeth Halabus, Valentine Szun, Donna Horodynski and brother-in-laws Robert Schaffer and Paul Szun, along with numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bill was a “Jack of all trades” and a Master of many; he was our own “MacGyver” and Mr. Fix It! There were no problems that Bill could not fix or solve! He had a heart of gold and was very generous with his help whenever anyone needed it, never asking for anything in return. We will miss his expertise and great advice.

Bill loved his trips to Cuba in the winter, but summer was his favourite. He spent most of it fishing, cutting grass on his riding lawnmower and keeping the cottage at White Mud Falls looking great. He was the BBQ-king and always had a cold drink waiting for friends.

He was predeceased by his Father Heinz Thater, Mother-in-law Wanda Horodynski, brothers-in-law Victor Horodynski and Richard Halabus, sisters-in-law Donna Krowiak and Anne Schaffer, Nephew Jason Horodynski and Niece Alexandra Menzies. They will all meet again in heaven above.

A Big THANK YOU to Dr. Fatoye and the staff in the Oncology Department as well as the staff on the 3rd floor, unit 5 at Seven Oaks hospital for their support and excellent care.

Bill, we will never forget your kind heart and generosity.

LOVE YOU FOREVER!

As per Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bill’s life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s memory to Cancer Care Manitoba.
