Obituary of COLLEEN BELINDA SMITH
COLLEEN BELINDA SMITH
NEE COOPER
Sadly after losing a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Belinda passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the young age of 68.
She is survived by her husband Paul Smith, her brother Don/Peggy Cooper, sister Diane/ Rick Roy, brother Bruce/Bev Cooper, sister Patti Cooper, brother Ken Cooper, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and her sweet fur baby Chase. She was predeceased by her loving parents Richard and Yvonne Cooper.
Belinda was born in Winnipeg and attended school in Transcona where she graduated from Murdoch Mackay with honors. When she turned 16, she started working at the local Dairy Queen which still exists today. She worked there for 4 years and loved every minute. In her last days of coherent thought and speech, she told stories about working at the Dairy Queen. Belinda had a long career with the phone companies including AGT, BC Tel and MTS. She worked her way up into the senior accounts manager position and loved solving tricky problems. She was a gourmet cook, she had a fantastic eye for decorating and loved entertaining. She loved her convertible and spending time at the cottage. She also enjoyed vacation trips, local “adventures”, as well as shopping. And of course, she loved her gardening and creating beautiful flowers at home with a weed-free lawn. She will be sorely missed by her husband, all her brothers and sisters as well as her many friends. In lieu of flowers, if friends would like, please make a donation to a wildlife charity, conservation charity, or animal rescue of your choice.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at the Middle Church Home of Winnipeg for the care given to Belinda throughout her time there.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday November 22, 2019 at 11:00am with a reception to follow at the Cropo Funeral Home in Winnipeg.
