Obituary of JANET DUBAS

JANET DUBAS

Janet was born December 18, 1934 at Winnipeg's old Victoria Hospital to Norman and Mary Jane (Tomlinson) Franks. She was the oldest sister to Bruce, Evelyn, James and Beverly. Her mother fostered children over the years, many of whom played an important part in Janet's life. She grew up in Morse Place, attending Prince Edward, John Pritchard and Lord Selkirk Schools. Janet was active at the Morse Place Community Club, enjoying outdoor activities and being Carnival Queen in 1953.

Janet went to work at Eaton's in 1952, where she met Bill. They dated for 2 years before marrying July 17, 1954 at St. Savior's Anglican Church. They started their family in 1956 with Laurie, followed by Robyne, Dale and Jonas. They followed in Janet's Mom's footsteps and  became foster parents in 1964, caring for more than 50 young children over many years.

Janet is remembered by her husband of 65 years William (Bill), children Laurie (Gilbert Geschiere), Robyne (John Sharp), Dale (Heidi) and Jonas (Donna); grandchildren Shane (Karen) and Michelle Geschiere, Erin Sharp (Alan Schnerch), David Sharp (Ashleigh), Laura Sharp, Samantha Dubas, Daniel and Joshua Dubas; great grandchildren Kayden Sharp, Adora, Austin and Diana Geschiere.

She is survived by sisters-in-law Joan Franks and family, Elaine Franks and family, and brother-in=law Allan Odland and family.

Janet had many interests and hobbies in her lifetime. She loved to sew and knit, read, bowl, and do tai-chi. She was known for her green thumb, indoors and out, at home and at the cottage. There are many young mothers and babies that benefitted from her donations of baby layettes that included a handmade baby sweater and blanket.

After being diagnosed with dementia Janet moved into Irene Baron Eden Centre in August 2018, and was subsequently diagnosed with colon cancer in November 2018.  In July she was hospitalized, and was transferred to Holy Family Personal Care Home October 22, 2019.

Janet remained active "walking miles" until her body failed her.
