It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great grandmother, Preciosa Fernandes on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 at age 91.  She passed away with family at her side after living with complications of Alzheimer’s disease over the past 10 years. Preciosa was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Diamantino Fernandes, her parents and 5 siblings. Preciosa was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Maria America (Jose Cortez), her son Roger (Anna), her grandchildren Robert (Debby), Tania (Alex), Kyle and Chantelle, great grandchildren Emily, Mia and Gabriella.  She will be missed by family and friends both in Winnipeg and Portugal.

Preciosa was born in Urqueira, Portugal. Immigrating in 1965 to Canada with her husband and young family to settle in Winnipeg. In Winnipeg, Preciosa’s first job was in a factory, then at a local supermarket and bakery.  In 1975, she and her husband became owner-operators of Portuguese Fish and Food Market.  Preciosa was a hard worker and loved her job as cashier and operating the store until she retired in 1992.  She enjoyed her retirement home in Portugal for a few years, moving back to Winnipeg in 2003 to be with family. She loved spending time with her grandkids and socializing with friends and family.
