EVA ZAJAC

Obituary of EVA ZAJAC

EVA ZAJAC It is with great sadness and sorrow we announce the passing of Eva Zajac, a wife, mother and baba. On Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 12:30 in the afternoon she left us peacefully with her husband Michael, of 50 years, by her side. She leaves to mourn her only daughter Sonia Szelemej, husband Jerry, and her two grandchildren Kathryn and Andrew; sister Ann Futros, brother John (Gwen) Huzyk, brother Robert (Kathryn) Huzyk, and many nieces and nephews. Eva was born on January 22, 1940 in the village of Regetiw in Western Ukraine where she lived with her mother until the age of two. She then was left to be raised by her grandmother and aunties. At a very early age she was a child labourer, until she immigrated to Canada at the age of 17 on February 1, 1957, to be reunited with her mother Melania and stepfather Wasyl Huzyk as well as her three siblings. In her early years Eva worked at the Nutty Club, until the birth of her only child Sonia, then she dedicated her life to being a homemaker and raising her pride and joy, Sonia. At this same time she was stricken with Rheumatoid Arthritis, which kept her from doing many things she loved. Even with this burden she still managed to garden, cook, have family gatherings and take small vacations with the ones she loved. When her health allowed her, she worked part time at St. Charles Country Club for a number of years which she enjoyed very much. She spent many joyous hours with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Though she had many physical challenges, she always moved forward and tried to live life to the fullest that she was able to. Eva was a lifelong member of St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church. To those who knew her, she will be greatly missed, and never forgotten. We would like to give thanks to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital especially Dr. Panaskevich for doing everything she could, and a special thank you to her dear friend Valerie Bezruk for helping her in many ways while she was still at home. Prayers will be read on Friday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. The Divine Liturgy will be at St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave., November 3, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Len Ratushniak and Monsignor Michael Buyachok. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery Pallbearers will be: Jerry Szelemej, Ihor Szelemej, Andrew Szelemej, Rob Fraser, John Huzyk, and Robert Huzyk. VICHNAYA PAM’YAT
